Was Santa Good to You?

mycoupons | 28 December, 2007 16:24

I cannot believe that Christmas has come and gone.  This holiday was very exhausting for me.  My father has been in the hospital for a couple weeks now.  He is doing much better and we anticipate his return in at least a week, at most 3.  His health was the perfect Christmas present   Laughing

Aside from my father's increasingly good health, I can certainly say that Santa was still good to me!  My favorite gift was a pair of tickets to see The Lion King on broadway and a beautiful dress with a matching necklace and bracelet from my darling boyfriend!  It blew my mind that he actually stepped foot alone into a women's clothing store to pick out his girlfiend (and very pick girlfriend mind you) an outfit to wear to the show.  He gets 5 stars!

What was your favorite gift this holiday season?  You can visit The Cafe in our shopping boards to share what Santa brought you as well as what you are most grateful for in 2007.

Holiday Traditions!

mycoupons | 19 December, 2007 16:02

Happy Wednesday!  Laughing

Christmas is only 6 days away (I know, I can’t believe it myself!)  I’m sure you all have your trees up, stockings hung, menoras lit, and presents wrapped.  Who am I kidding I’m not even done shopping yet!  Regardless, we all have our own little traditions that we practice during the holiday season.

This has been my 3rd Christmas with my current boyfriend, Jeremiah, and every year I have gone with his family to find a tree and chop it down.  We go to this amazing nursery in Western PA where we can walk through their acres of rolling h.ills and pick out the perfect tree.  We all share a hot apple cider together, load the tree onto the truck, and then go out to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants.  It is definitely one of my favorite days out of the year.

Diane and Allison also have special traditions that they'd like to share.

Diane, what's your favorite part of the holiday?

I am from a large Italian family and the Christmas season starts at Thanksgiving and last through the New Year.  I LOVE it!
We all love to bake and cook so there is no shortage of food, goodies, and spirits, of course!  My Mom and I bake mostly the traditional Italian cookies (Pizelles, Wafflettes, Italian Knots, etc.) with my sister, cousins, and Aunt baking every day and traditional cookies, plus one or two new kinds they find this year.  My (future) Mother in Law is strictly Italian baking and cooking. I usually have Christmas Eve and Christmas.  We feast day and night.  On Christmas Eve we all go to midnight Mass.

Have any Christmas traditions Allison?

Christmas traditions eh? Oh boy! On my mother's side of the family, I have four other cousins who are right around the same age as my brother Ryan and I. Growing up it became a family tradition to have the children of the family perform a "Christmas Talent" each year at our family get together. When we were really young, too young to care how about utterly embarrassing this all really was, it was something we all really got into and didn’t mind doing. We would read Christmas stories, do silly dances, or sometimes just recite a holiday poem. As harmless as it was, our parents found joy in dressing us up in ridiculous Christmas outfits and watching us perform “cute”..(AKA embarrassing) stuff in front of the family. Two of my cousins were musicians, one playing the flute annually and the other a fine pianist. As nice and easy as it was for them to come up with something to do every year, my brother andI and my two other cousins, (both boys) always had to dig really deep to find something creative to do. One fine year sticks out in my mind each and every year around this time. HAHAHA. Having been Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Halloween one year, (Ryan Raphel and myself as Leonardo) we decided to recycle our costumes for one final horrah.  (PS, this was ALL my mother's idea) My mom put together a “priceless” and I mean PRICEless, rendition of Jingle Bells… TMNT style. I believe it went a little something like.. “Jingle Bells, Turtle Shells, Christmas time is near. We’ve cleaned the sewer and waxed our shells, please visit us Santa Dear” haha, I can’t completely remember the words anymore, but none the less, Ryan and I stood fully dressed as turtles one year and sang this ridiculous song for all to hear. I’ll never forget it and neither will the family. It has definitely gone down in the books as one of the most “memorable” Christmas performances in family history. Come to think of it, I know we have it on video somewhere; I should probably put that fine piece of work on youtube.

Those are some great traditions!  If you have a holiday tradition you'd like to share, visit The Cafe in our shopping boards and tell us all about them!  I wish all of you and your family a healthy and happy holiday!

Buying Shoes Online

mycoupons | 18 December, 2007 11:18

As an avid shopper who some may say needs to sit through a couple SA (Shopaholics Anonymous) meetings, I know that the initial online purchase can be a scary feat;  especially when it comes to buying shoes.  You may ask yourself, what if the shoe doesn’t fit?  Is it safe to use my credit card online?  What if I don’t like the shoes once I see them in person?  What is this whole online shopping craze all about anyways?  But have no fear; MyCoupons is here to help you ease your worries.

First, let me start by saying that there is nothing better than a store that never closes.  Oh a Shopaholics heaven!  Imagine sitting in front of your computer in your jammies, heck in your birthday suit even! (Hey, whatever floats your boat is my motto Wink )  You peruse the pages of shoes.  Stilettos, espadrilles, peep toes, slingbacks,  mules, strappy sets of heaven on a heel.  Ok, sorry I’m getting carried away.  Anyway, with a click of a mouse you just bought yourself the little black platform booties you’ve been dying for.  It’s that easy!  There are some tricks of the trade that I’d like to share with you though before you make your initial purchase.

  1. Do your research.  Most online shoe stores offer free shipping and free returns if you need to return or exchange.  And yes, I said FREE!  When shopping online, check each stores return policy to make sure if need be you may return your shoes hassle free.
  2. Shop for brands you know.  Some of you may not want to deal with returning items, free or not.  So for those who don’t want to try something new, stick to the brands that you know and love.  You will know exactly how that brand fits and what size you’ll wear.
  3. Fear not to pay online.  I’m sure many of you have feared entering your credit card online, but I can assure you that buying online can be even safer than buying in store.
  • First check to make sure that the site is secure.  You can check the URL for a “secure socket lair,” ie: https.
  • If you are still skeptical, some sites let you order and then pay via check.
  • Shoes.com offers a Bill Me Later option.  Bill Me Later is a convenient and secure new payment method designed for purchasing on the web or over the phone. As a credit account, Bill Me Later provides you with the flexibility to purchase without using your credit card.  No card=extra level of security.
  • And many other stores accept PayPal in which you can pay from a variety of different sources.
  1. Use a coupon code.  These days, most online merchants offer coupon codes for online shoppers making it even more inexpensive to shop online than in store!  All you need to do is visit www.mycoupons.com and search for the shoe store you’d like to shop at.  Have a particular shoe you’d like to buy but don’t know who sells it?  Search by product to find what store carries that shoe.
  2. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!  Since you are in the comfort of your own home, you don’t need to worry about fighting the crowd and another customer for that last pair of Steve Madden Women's Reilly Pump.  In most cases when you buy online, they offer more styles and sizes for everyone to enjoy!
All this shoe talk is giving me the itch to shop, so while I’m checking out the selection at Shoes.com, you can too!  And while you’re at it, save 15% and get free shipping by using the coupon code MCNOVSAVE.

Happy shopping!    Money mouth
